SECOND TO NONE- THE 220 FLEA MARKET

Hasn’t shopping these days become boring?
Kudos to the mall culture, you can find the same shoes you were drooling on (and also got them at a hefty price) on a girl walking right ahead of you.

But, you see, God takes care of all his children. Hence, there are flea markets.

Flea markets are small bazaars of a temporary raw setup where people with creative ideas of new/old products, upcoming labels, bartering etc. put up stalls. They can be based on design concept, selling fruits and vegetables or stand with themes such as up-cycling/re-cycling of products as a green step of moving closer to nature.

Second-to-None is one such flea market completely on a concept of re-use, re-cycle, up-cycle and the green idea. It took place at Jaaga on KH road on a Sunday. People who put up stalls came up with some amazing green ideas in their minds.

It feels great to acknowledge and come across such people- making new things out of the old, keeping memories revived or simply giving a rebirth to some old discarded material.
Here are the glimpses. And the details will follow up in the next posts! :)

A Village in the City!

Saturated with elements of urbanisation and a colour palette of minimalist looks on sleek plain modernist lines, is this luxury all we want? Do we realise how precious these days are the old and the vintage? The importance of emotions and stories attached to them is irreplaceable. The world seems to run back to reconnect to the old and the story-telling idea of living with culture.

Sorry, that might have been too long of an intro! Probably some personal love attached! ;)

So, just a weekday afternoon, I happen to find a village in the city. Located on the top floor of Centrals at JP Nagar, a theme based restaurant on the lines of bringing back the traditional culture and cuisine. An initiation by Kambala Hospitality group who deal into catering and banquet services quote it as:
Village, the soul of India is the first unique theme restaurant which revives the long forgotten traditions and culinary secrets of the Indian culture and heritage. Village, the soul of India pampers your visit with a no time limit policy, variety of regional entertainment & attractions; a gigantic spread of six different cuisines from all over India and you can shop for some memorabilia too.”
With branches in many cities, they realize that it’s not food which they want to serve people with, but an experience of interaction & traditional dining. There are stages for puppet shows, kachi-ghodi dance(from kutch), dandiya, astrologers etc.
Log on here to know more. And I learnt that there is one branch in Indore too (my hometown) :D
The moment I saw the place, click was that it has to come on my blog! ;p

Thanks Mr. Ramkumar Singh for sharing the information and permissions.

That's the reception!

THE FUN THEORY

yeah, that's my current obsession over the internet. Trying to get the cold out of sight and mind! *aaaccchhhheee!*

check out Fun Theory
Its an initiative by Volkswagen dedicated to the thought that something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people’s behaviour for the better. Be it for yourself, for the environment, or for something entirely different, the only thing that matters is that it’s change for the better.

"Take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator and feel better” is something we often hear or read in the Sunday papers. Few people actually follow that advice. Can we get more people to take the stairs over the escalator by making it fun to do? See the results here:

I have a total agreement with the Fun theory knowing the practical implementations of the same. With more an more of health disorders and environment pollution, the fun theory benefits both the humans and the environment. A much needed step for today!

SCATTER SHELF BY NENDO

The scatter shelf is composed of 5mm black acrylic shelves in a grid form, stacked in three layers and slightly displaced. The resulting shelving unit is not only structurally strong but creates a visual effect in which objects placed on the shelves appear as though caught in a spider’s web when viewed from the front. When viewed on an angle, the glossy acrylic face creates a series of reflections within the shelves, making the ‘opaque’ acrylic appear to be transparent. The diffused reflections caused by the surfaces’ shine and form also separates and scatters the view behind the shelving unit, creating a completely kaleidoscopic effect.

how cool is that?!!
